My sowing seeds pit

I build my garden beds and filled them with seedlings. I did want to try and just sow some seeds directly into the ground and see what happens. I dug two large pits (well one garden bed and one bit for a bush of some sort). The idea being that once I cut out all the roots, I would fill it with cheap dirt and plant seeds like Johnny apple seed. Just throw them onto the beds, cover them up and see what happens.
